Rebecca “Becca” Parrott Tatum is a Certified Public Accountant with over 16 years experience in accounting.
She began her career as an Intern Auditor with the Georgia Department of Audits while still in college. There she conducted audits of payments made by the Department of Medical Assistance for Non-Emergency Transportation services and helped uncover millions of dollars worth of fraudulent claims, resulting in numerous fines and convictions for the perpetrators of those crimes.
After graduating with a B.B.A. in Accounting from the State University of West Georgia in 1996, she worked in public accounting for many years. While working in public accounting, she gained valuable knowledge representing clients in IRS office exams, correspondence audits and with tax notices. She was responsible for federal and multi-state tax return preparation, tax projections, individual, corporate, fiduciary, sales, property, and payroll tax returns. She also maintained detailed asset listings and depreciation schedules, and became skilled in inventory tracking and reconciliation. She compiled, reviewed and audited financial statements of both for-profit and not-for-profit entities.
After passing all four parts of the CPA exam in one sitting in November, 2002, (a feat not easy to accomplish), and obtaining her CPA license in March of 2003, she worked as a corporate controller where she was in charge of the accounting department for two companies with common ownership and combined gross sales of $11 million, supervising one accountant and reporting directly to the President. There she compiled regular interim financial reports, initiated and implemented a transaction fee for child support and other payroll liens, offsetting the cost of administration, generated multi-state payroll for 200+ employees on a biweekly basis and prepared bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual payroll tax reports for business in eight states and the Virgin Islands. She also administered the 401(k) plan, evaluated bank-provided services and instituted sweep and fraud protection. She improved internal control over assets by establishing monthly general ledger account reconciliation, updating forms, and documenting accounting procedures and instructions.
Rebecca is the proud mother of two daughters, Ashlee and Julia, and two grandchildren, Jaelyn and Julien. She and her husband, Alan, live in Cumming, Georgia.
